Just upgraded from BG2 to ms extra. EDIS input issues
Alright, so I have a v3 pcb running MS2. I re-did all my jumpers according to the msextra tutorial on EDIS (they were different from the bg tutorial)
current jumpers I have installed:
js10 to ign
TACHSELECT to XG1
(no jumper between xg1 and xg2)
TSEL to optout
c30 removed
top of c30 to s12c
no other jumpers.
What am I missing. Im lost. Also, I believe I have the tunerstudio settings correct, ive tried all combinations of rising/falling high/low.

This is the correct output mod
TACHSELECT to XG1
(no jumper between xg1 and xg2)
TSEL to optout
c30 removed
top of c30 to s12c
The input mod should be,
V3.0 board - VR Input for logic input e.g. TFI, EDIS, GMDIS, LS1/24X, modules
a) Solder a link between VRIN and TACHSELECT
b) Solder a wire between VrOUT and TSEL
c) With a small screwdriver, turn the pots, R52 and R56, about 12 turns anticlockwise (sometimes you may feel a "click" when the end position is reached, they can't be damaged by turning too far.)
d) Turn R56 back about 6 turns clockwise. http://www.msextra.com/doc/general/tach ... ml#vrlogic
no other jumpers.
What am I missing. Im lost. Also, I believe I have the tunerstudio settings correct, ive tried all combinations of rising/falling high/low.

Re: Just upgraded from BG2 to ms extra. EDIS input issues
Alright, there appears to be some discrepancy. Thanks for the help Luke. Going to give that a shot first thing tomorrow
On this tutorial (after they mention to do the mods you suggested), they have this:
http://www.msextra.com/doc/ms2extra/MS2-Extra_EDIS.htm
Do I need any of the modifications here as well?
Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

Ok, just read a little closer, it appears that's for microsquirt only. UGH. thanks

Re: Just upgraded from BG2 to ms extra. EDIS input issues
Ok turns out still no signal. I changed back to regular resistor on r12.
Just not getting any kind of tach signal. Spark is working perfectly(so I know edis is working)
What could be wrong on the board on the VR circuit? Another question, could I just use the OPT in and OPTout instead? I know that circuit used to work.

Do I need c30?
Re: Just upgraded from BG2 to ms extra. EDIS input issues
Install C30 across the MS1 boot header on the board. It apparently does really good things with voltage spikes and resets.

alright I can try that.dontz125 wrote:Install C30 across the MS1 boot header on the board. It apparently does really good things with voltage spikes and resets.
I had taken c30 off for a previous modification. Do I need to replace it with a new one in its stock location.
thanks
Re: Just upgraded from BG2 to ms extra. EDIS input issues
If you're using the VR filter, you don't need the opto components. If you've used the piece that came in the labelled "C30" for something else, don't worry about it. (Still a good idea to put something similar in the boot header)

Re: Just upgraded from BG2 to ms extra. EDIS input issues
Ok, If the missing C30 isn't the culprit causing my missing tach signal from EDIS, do you have any ideas? Any idea for testing the pip signal from tunestudio (like a plugin or something?)? Ive adjusted the vr pots as suggested in the msextra guide. Could I need to play with the pots to get a signal?

Re: Just upgraded from BG2 to ms extra. EDIS input issues
Im not sure if there are any components that tend to fail on that circuit, I just reordered every component for the VR circuit and im just going to start over. Itll be a good exercise anyways. If anyone has any tips or pointers that has been through the BG to EXTRA upgrade with EDIS, let me know. Thanks
Re: Just upgraded from BG2 to ms extra. EDIS input issues
May or may not help but I have the ecact smae setup running edis. I can take photos of my board or look at things for you if it helps.

Re: Just upgraded from BG2 to ms extra. EDIS input issues
Is the edis saw output an open collector switch? Is there actually a need for a pull up like using the VR input with a hall sensor?

Dean, That would be a huge help.
No need to take it out of the car until I rebuild the circuit though, package from digikey should arrived today. Ill let you know if I need it soon.
I think culprit may be a bad trimmer pot on r56. Thanks again for all the replies.

Re: Just upgraded from BG2 to ms extra. EDIS input issues
Turns out that I had a bad r56 potentiometer. Looks like I got it too hot when I built the board 3 years ago - but I had never used the VR circuit, so it must have went unnoticed. Installed a new one for $1 and fixed the issue. I ended up using the recommended input mods and it worked well.
Thanks to all who gave input on the issue.
