What is MegaTunix and why should I use it?
MegaTunix is a MegaSquirt compatible Tuning software like MegaTune and TunerStudio. It offers similar features to those two, so why would you want to use it?
- MegaTunix is 100% free, no nag screens, no "pay to unlock" features, you can donate if you want, but the application will never nag the user to do so, it is entirely voluntary.
- MegaTunix is 100% OSS (GPL v2) Some people only wish to use 100% Free Software applications and MegaTunix falls into this category.
- MegaTunix is a native cross platform application, available for Windows, Linux and OS-X, i.e. it does NOT require Java or an interpreter or virtual machine to run.
- MegaTunix is the only free tuning software that supports multi-user tuning via network connectivity. (One master copy of megatunix is connected to an ECU and others can connect to that master over the internet and parallel tune/datalog, etc) This is supported on all OS's, and is currently in a very functional "beta" state.
- MegaTunix provides a different UI than MT/TS, which many users have commented that MegaTunix's user interface is easier and more intuitive to use.
- MegaTunix includes several highly realistic gauge sets, and tools to create your own custom gauges and dashboard arrangements.
- MegaTunix also includes Gui and Command Line tools for firmware loading.
- MegaTunix has a comprehensive datalogger, allowing simultaneous logs of custom chosen data as well as all ECU derived data to be running simultaneously.
- MegaTunix includes a rudimentary log playback/live visualization tool (currently a re-work in progress) integrated into the UI.
OK, so those are the advantages, here's the disadvantages:
- MegaTunix DOES NOT use the MegaTunix/Tunerstudio ".ini" files, thus support for newer firmwares lags behind TS/MT. This is due to significantly different architectures between the applications, the MT .ini's don't provide the necessary gui flexibility that MegaTunix demands for its user interface, among other issues.
- MegaTunix DOES NOT support reading or writing MT/TS ".msq" (ecu backup) files. These files unfortunately are locked to the MT.ini's and only store a symbolic representation of ECU state, instead of the actual ecu data values, and thus require the other MT/TS specific files to properly decode into ECU usable data. MegaTunix DOES however support import/export of "VEX" (VE Export) files for transferring things like fuel, spark, Afr, boost tables between systems. This may be partially alleviated in the future, but is of a lower priority task.
- MegaTunix does NOT yet have an auto-tune algorithm active and available in the UI (though this is actively being worked upon and won't be a limitation for much longer.)

Yes 3.03x is supported, let me know of any issues by creating a new thread to report problems.BenGTT wrote:Hi,

Have you been able to update the "autotune" function? I am currently tuning an '88 Conquest TSi, and this feature would be GREATLY appreciated! thanks for all of your hard work!

MegaTunix has never had autotune, its scheduled to be implemented at some point, but isn't there yet. The 3D table editor however has many shortcuts for rapid tuning of groups of cells though to help you hone in quickly however.

Does this imply that remote users can look at your tune and adjust it? I was looking for an autotune function ( well, i guess i Should have read ability) that MS2 promised when i bought it but later found out that i had to pay for. Thanks..slightly disgruntled...

MegaTunix does not yet have an auto-tune functionality , however the source is open and contributions are accepted if you have the aptitude to try and code something of that nature..68pishta wrote:"..MegaTunix is the only free tuning software that supports multi-user tuning via network " connectivity. With at least some software versions, MS2 will autotune without being connected to any external software.

Oh yeah ? Which one? I was only aware of TS, the older MS app prior to 2.6.1 or whatever and yours.

Ummm... yeah... Its in the firmware.68pishta wrote:Oh yeah ? Which one? I was only aware of TS, the older MS app prior to 2.6.1 or whatever and yours.
MS3-pre1.3 has internally generated tables for long term fuel trim.
It's all in the firmware, and at least theortetically works all in the background.
(it may have been backported to ms2extra, havent used it in awhile)
I haven't had much luck with it, but I also have had it turned off for the last ~half dozen alphas.
Think what you want, but the autotune stuff in Tuner Studio works quite well, it can pay for itself quickly given what fuel costs, much less your time.
Always doing things the hard way, MS2 sequential w/ v1.01 mainboard, LS2 coils. 80 mile/day commuter status.

the flexible protocol and GUI is a pretty amazing feature, are there any plans to support at least the flexible protocol in MegaTunix?djandruczyk wrote: - MegaTunix DOES NOT use the MegaTunix/Tunerstudio ".ini" files, thus support for newer firmwares lags behind TS/MT.
