Why's that? Tooth#1 angle is whatever is required to get correct timing. It depends on sensor and wheel phasing.
On my 36-1 wheel, the correct tooth#1 angle happens to be 39 degrees.

I guess because BMW didn't put the crank sensor in a random place? ;)

for example: M50 vanos: 324 degrees (54 teeth)
M20: 84 degrees (14 teeth).

etc..

best way I know is to set the engine at TDC and count the # of teeth until the sensor (clockwise direction), then multiply by 6.

i'm pretty d*** sure all the bmw coils are dumb and require external igniter that's usually sitting in the ecu itself.

sure, they'll be 3 wire coils, but that doesn't mean much.

on my bmw, i've got stock coils being driven by a toyota camry 6 channel igniter (there's a writeup with pics in the oem forum) off ms3x board.

My engine started!!! :yeah!: :yeah!:
It was scary enough!! I used TS startup maps but they are far away from those I need. VE analyze live really worked. I left it to correct the maps, but the engine was stalling all the time and I think that I had a lot of back-fires. On the beginning I had no throttle response.

I am very worried if I have set any important configuration wrong. The best tooth #1 angle my timing light gave me was 118. My tables are very wrong till now so I can’t get for a ride. I don’t know if I have noises or a sync loss. Please take a look at my files and tell me if something is obviously wrong.

You are getting horrendous sync-loss.
Please take a post a composite log from running.

As noted in the manual "use cam signal if available" does nothing in "toothed wheel" mode.

Looking at the first log, there's repeated false teeth just around the missing tooth region. Also try a tooth log and comparing it to the examples in the manual.

I installed the OEM ECU, because I need the car. When I was looking the tooth logger while running the picture was exacly the same as in the example page.
How sould my composite logger looks like with 60-2 crank and 1 tooth cam ?

I installed MS again, here is the tooth log. My engine was stalling all the time, and my mixture was very bad. May that cause this terible sync loss?

Hello again, i tried to work my engine yesterday and today but i still haven't drive the car on the road. I don't know if I'm having the sync loss because of my fuel table of the other way around.... :(

I'm getting synced while cranking as also at the area of 2000rpm, but as you see in this video I'm have problem at lower rpms. Is it becouse of my fuel table, or should I check my configurations? I have destroied my sparks becouse of rich mixture, please help a little bit before I make any serious damage.
This is the fuel table I was working and my log file from yesterday:

You can almost certainly remedy the spark plugs by heating the electrode with a gas torch until it is just red hot. That burns off the deposits and de-fouls it.

When cold check the resistance from electrode to screw - it should be infinite. A fouled plug will read a few kilohms.

Nice tip! Thanks

But what about this sync loss? Is it because of my bad mixture and timing, or is it because of noise or configuration false? Any comments about the video and the datalogs? Is it safe to drive it on the road and start tunning it?

I disconnected the cam sensor and I swiched to wasted spark. After that the car is running well and I started tunning the VE table. The only problem I'm having now is a sync loss #2 on about 1000-1100 rpm. Never above and never beyond that range...

The log file is too big, so I took 2 printscreens with the error and one at higher rpms in which is perfect. What should I check?

Looks like it needs a resistor inline with the VR sensor - try starting with 10K.

It worked perfectly with the 10k resistor. I putted one 1/4W, will tha be ok or sould I put a 1/2W resistor?

Question: VE analyse putted in some shells of the VE table values bigger tha 100, but I'm N/A. How is tha possible?
