MS3 case - sneak preview

Postby jsmcortina » Tue Jul 14, 2009 10:10 am

Here's a couple of photos that should be representative of what the MS3 + V3.57 + MS3X will look like:

Lower connector is standard DB37, upper connector is MS3X. Map sensor port in hole at bottom.

Serial port, USB connection, SDcard in slot and 'spare' DB15.

Here's an internal view of a V3.57 with just the MS3 card installed.

I looks like the taller case is obtained through a couple of rails, one on each side. Is it a temporary solution with a one piece replacement top case half coming later or is it the final solution? Or am I not seeing it correctly?

You are looking too hard! Yeah, this is only a "representative" case I put together. The expectation is that taller extrusions will be used when the MS3 goes on sale.

GAH i can feel a custom case comming on.. I can just squeeze the current size one in.. That will be... A hassle.. Saying that, for 99.99% of installs, its the best method possible.

Ill just machine up a new one. no big deal.

Does it really need to be twice as tall? I realise that surface mount boards, and trying to maintain backwards compatibility makes things difficult, but that is huge compared to an AEM, OMEX, Pectel etc.

The case I made there is about 12mm taller, that's all.

I used cases from extruded aluminum, black anodised, for different customer specific products.
After a while, I checked that scratches in the surface are *much* more disturbing looking.
So I changed to uncoloured anodisation - and am happy with it ...

James:

Do you think in a case about that size you can fit in 8 fuel (high imp) and 8 ign (led style low power) drivers?

The MS3X board (the upper DB37) will provide just that. 8x injector drive and 8x logic spark drive (plus 6 medium current drive, 3 analogue inputs, 4 switch inputs.)

See also http://www.ms3efi.com/doc/hardware.html for a table of inputs/outputs and some example wiring diagrams (scroll down)

We'll most likely give you both options when we tool up for cases.

I'll let you know - got a lot of things going on right now but we plan to order the cases with plenty of time before the production version is released.

I could really use a case! <please?>

Otherwise I'm going to have to order a EAF400 case and hack it up. . . .

I'm running on my rx7 now without the front plate or top of the case. Works fine though, I just cover it up with the carpet :-P

Even when I have a case that fits I run like that half the time because of the testing for one thing or another that I happen to be doing.

Matt,

Did you guys have any idea of the time frame you might be looking at, even roughly? I think the MS3 has a pretty much permanent home in my car at this point until such time as it might get "called back home" or something  , and I'd kind of like to give it a proper case. I'm following Ken's program currently, but I'm waaaaay to prone to just doing stuff like that indefinitely, so I try to prod myself to neaten up a bit as I go.

Thanks,

Thad
