Need Guidance For Launch Control Please

Postby Tjabo » Sun Aug 16, 2009 9:51 am

Hello all,

I am planning to put the addition of a launch control circuit into my priority list (that's pretty non-committal, huh? LOL).

At any rate, I was planning to build the simple little "going-low" circuit in the proto area of my V3 board, and then use a grounded clutch switch for now.

Looking around on the MSx/Extra forums today, I see that there are no pics I could find of peoples' added on circuits (for my copying purposes). I also see that in order to utilize one or two of the possible inputs, little jumpers are necessary on the MS2 daughterboard.

I'm sure I can figure out well enough how to build the circuit, but what I was wondering was what input you would suggest I use, and what all else I might need to know to make this work properly with MS3.

Thanks in advance as always!

Thad

On MS3 we had the two "jumper circuits" built-in, so the same mainboard pin is used, but no mods on the MS3 are required.

As input protection I have used simply a series diode "pointing away from the CPU"

i.e. CPU ---- ->|- ---- switch

if you can read ASCII art.

Sorry James, but I *think* I understand that the same mainboard circuit like this needs to be built:

but no jumpers are necessary on the MS3 daughterboard? Is that correct?

Thanks!

Yes, that circuit is fine.

No jumpers are required on the MS3 card.
pin 10 = PE0
pin 15 = PE1

You should try the flatshift as well, since it's built into that feature. As I understand it, you simply keep your foot planted on the gas while shifting, the clutch engages the flatshift at the higher RPM's the seriously retarded timing pulls down your RPM's and keeps the turbo spooled, and if you actually got it into the next gear, when you let the clutch back out, you're off like a rocket (or in the case of a Neon trans, well... I won't bring up any of Nasa's mistakes, but I think you get the idea..).. hehe, just givin ya a hard time.. I've always been tempted to try that flatshift out, but I only upshift reliably 9 out of 10 times at the track.. Might get ugly.. ;)
I wonder.. Is MS3 going to have Antilag? Makes for cool YouTube videos.. ;)

I like my launch/flatshift:

No turbo here though.

Antilag will most likely be added along with angle-clock for the 2.0 firmware.

Megasquirt is not for use on pollution controlled vehicles. Any advice I give is for off road use only.

That's a sweet ride James! Is that what you're adding the turbo to?

Regarding the flat shift Una, that would be sweet, but you hit the nail on the head as to why I haven't been champing at the bit to use flat shift. I remember one of dmarino's posts on the Neons.org Megasquirt forum when he was using flat shift. Seems he went about trying to humiliate a Ferrari or something on one of the metro Detroit freeways, and flatshifted (into 4th IIRC) in the heat of battle. The trans blew partially up, and he ended up limping home. I'm not sure that had the desired effect on the driver of the Ferrari.

I have been giving flat shift *some* thought though, and if there is a way to set it up to reduce the driveline shock somehow, I'd be willing to mess around with it some.

On the other hand, I'm not sure if I'll want to mess with anti-lag though, my turbo was a little bit expensive, so I'd rather not do something on purpose that has a good chance of damaging it severely. There are plenty of others who will though!

That's gonna be WICKED James! ! ! I'm not very familiar with the compressor map for a t70, but what kind of airflow/HP do you have planned for that setup? If it runs as well as it sounds, it's going to fly!

Now all you have to do is build the car around the engine, huh?
