Have 5 boards v3.0 & only 2 work

using codes 029y, 029k with the latest download for 029y using the x86bit.

1 board is working great on my racecar and haven't mixed any CPU's with these, communicates good with the usb adaptor and my tuning laptop

WHat I have tried:
db9 serial cable with my desktop, same results
loop back test with pins 12 & 13 jumpered works on all but the one with the short
tried uploading all of them hooked up to my car instead of the stim thinking supply voltage was an issue and same results
I used rubbing alcohol to clean boards

so your not gonna help? I dont give up easily, this happend all the sudden. I searched and all I can find is try another computer, usb adaptor or using serial cable. I do search, some of the threads were resolved and some are left in question. WHenever I start a thread, I post as much info as I can and when it's resolved I come back and end it.
I got these 2 other people relying on me, none of this makes any sense? Does any of it make sense to you?

5 boards out of - how many thousands in service? - fail in your hands. Multiple computers, USB & serial, on the car and on the stim. Sorry, friend - the common thread here is you. Get over yourself, remove the silly noise about 'loyalty', and ask coherent questions.

Review the testing and troubleshooting procedures in the manual. Review what you have, and what you've done. At this point, I'd suggest starting over - make a plan, including a point-by-point checklist for testing both your boards AND your stim. You might ask for suggestions on that, and perhaps post it up for comment. You really haven't described what you've done, what you're trying to accomplish, nor what you HAVE achieved.

Do you know for a fact that your stim works? It has no protection on the bottom, and is notoriously easy to short out. Does your wall-wart work? Are you getting proper voltages at all the proper places? Does your DB9 cable work? You mentioned doing a loop-back test on pins 12 and 13, but the DB-9 only has, well, 9 pins.

well I somehow got this one to work again. Been tackling this for 6 hours maybe.

On the down side I have found 2 bad ms1 chips I now have to re-order and both of them are brand new 0 mileage.

all i've done so far was replace the r9 resistor that is famous for overheating on the stim

that's what I get out of my good working board as a reference to my other other boards. Is that correct, using a 9v battery with the ms1 chip "OFF" the board.

that's what I get out of the board that was working just fine but now wont communicate with TS nor can I download firmware. Loopback test with Hyperterminal works fine w/ pins 12 & 13 jumpered on U1 socket.

Where is a good place to purchase a MAX232 chip, local store does not stock them

Try the loop-back test across the DB9 pins 2 & 3. The U1-12 & 13 test only works if the MAX232 is working correctly.

Just a little more than half-way down you'll find the voltages you should be seeing with the processor removed. Remember, if you are using MS1 chips you must NOT have the 12v input connected!

all those are there, also pin 2 of the u1 socket has ground although I didn't put it up inthe drawing I made. Though I dont have the 12v input jumper, I know about that one.

that's what I get ouf my good working board as a reference, this is with or without the U1 main chip installed using a 9v battery. That does not coincide with the other board so there is an issue but where?

that's the message i'm getting on 3 of 4 U1 chips on my last good working board. So to me that sais they are all dead.

No, they aren't dead. The chip replied "! what" so it is alive. However, the reflash sent an unexpected command or something. Try with the boot jumper.

well your absolutely right. THey all turned out good after using the jumper. Couldn't find a ZTX553 so i'm gonna take one off another board and test the RPM signal. Also lost my internet so had to use a friends. I'll keep this updated.

so all my boards are now working after loading the code with the jumper in place. Not runnig on cars yet but the stimulator is flashing normal. GLAD!
