Megasquirt wiring harness questions

Postby jsl240z » Fri Mar 23, 2012 2:48 am

Hello, the question this time concerns the wiring harness. I bought a wiring harness from diyautotune, I have already wired the car but have run into some problems and I am rechecking my harness connections/wiring. I was wondering there is a shielded wire containing a white, black and shield braided wire, I know this is for vr sensor/optical sensor. I am using optical Nissan CAS with a 1K pullup on 12v going to white wire then to the CAS. Black I have grounded with the rest of the harness is this right? Do I do anything with the braided wire inside the twisted pair? And how crucial is it to have the shielding go right up to the connector for my CAS?

BTW I am trying to diagnose a misfire

Thanks again -James

The shield is only grounded to the MegaSquirt. I wouldn't worry too much about a few inches of shield-less wire.

Incorrect.
A sensor ground should be grounded at the Megasquirt.

What Pin would that sensor ground be?

DIYAutoTune uses pin 17, which is connected to a black wire with a white stripe.

Sorry a little confused still, is this right:
Ground from CAS to pin #17 (megasquirt ground)
Black wire from twisted pair (coming from pin #1) going to engine ground?

The black wire in the shielded/twisted pair is also grounded at the connector, so use that for the CAS's ground.
