Speed pulser and MSII extra

Postby TBI_Master » Tue May 15, 2012 6:57 am

My car has a speed pulser already installed. Can I feed those pulses to any free input in my MSII/Extra and get either the pulses/sec, or the time between one pulse and the next one?

What happen is that I am sending the whole data stream to one microprocessor, and that micro is tied to a LCD where I see all the important data of my engine.
I was just thinking if there was a spare counter/capture module in the MS controller. If not, then I will wire the speed sensor to the micro and it will compute and report the speed straight to the LCD. The problem would be when i connect the laptop instead of the LCD, I would not have the car speed.

There isn't an existing feature to do this, but the source is available if you wish to add it yourself.

Hi
One solution is to use a fequency to voltconverter.
This way you can use ADC6 or ADC7 to capture speed.

How does MS3 accept VSS pulses? Does it have extra hardware on the daughter card? I thought it just had to be tied to a spare digital input?

I like this idea. I do have a PCB that does exactly that...Thanks!

You can either use a voltage based signal to an analog input or a square wave signal to a digital input.
